Uncertainties

We live in an uncertain world. Nothing is for certain when it comes to anything in it. Fears assail us and anxieties threaten to swallow us. Billy Graham said, “I know not what the future holds, but I now Who holds the future.” You see, God is on His throne. All things are in His hands. We can cling to Him, not to the fears and anxieties. This is difficult for us, because we want to be in control. We want all things to be in our hands. We are the cause of our fears and anxieties. We blame it on our circumstances or on the people around us, but when it comes down to it, it is us. Why do we trust the Lord with our eternal lives, but not with our daily events and crises? Fear places us upon the throne, and that is a place we do not want to be. When the world grabs us by the throats, let’s allow God to pry the dark, bony fingers loose and breathe trust into our beings. He is worthy of our trust; the world isn’t.

Psalm 46:1-3New King James Version (NKJV)

46 God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah
