Judging Others

I was just watching Susan Boyle’s audition for “Britain’s Got Talent” on You Tube. I also watched some other auditions of other people on various competition shows on t.v. and was struck by how judgmental people can be. They look at appearances and the jobs that people do or don’t hold and then they smirk. They seem to believe that only beautiful or successful people can sing beautifully or play a musical instrument extremely well. They make up their minds about someone before that person has been given a chance. Why? Why do people make fun of others? Why do people pick and choose others as if they are eggs or vegetables on display at the grocery store, ignoring some, pitching some aside and choosing only what they think are the best? Why are they surprised when they find out that someone they ignored is truly worth knowing? After all, we are God’s creation, aren’t we? Why are people smirking at His creations? Not everyone looks the way society thinks they should look. Not everyone has the personality that some people think they should have. Let’s look at the heart. “The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1Samuel 16:7 NIV). I am so, so thankful that God doesn’t look at us the way others do. If He did, He wouldn’t have bothered to send His Son to die for our sins. Thank You, dear Father!
