I am powerfully reminded on pages 89-91 of Priscilla Shirer’s “Gideon” Bible study that we have God’s power abiding within us at all times. In Luke 9:1-2 Jesus clearly states that He has given His disciples power and authority. The 12 struggled and allowed distractions to divert them from the power given to them. Aren’t we the same way? I am reminded of Luke 11:8-13. We should be praying boldly for God to unleash the power that abides within us. We should, as the original Greek translation states, keep on asking, keep on seeking, keep on knocking. Bold persistence! Why should we take a bold stance in prayer for the unleashing of the power within us? Let’s take a look at the world around us through the eyes of God. That should answer our question. We cannot afford to be weak and struggling in our work for the Lord. Too many people out there are falling into a dark abyss in which they cannot find their way out. They don’t know what to do or Who to turn to. Each second too many people are dying and going to a terrible, terrible place. Too many people are crying and suffering and trying to get through each day while bringing down the people around them. These are some of the reasons we need to be praying persistently for the unleashing of the power of Christ within us. Because, as Philippians 4:13 tells us, we can do all things through Christ—-why?—because He strengthens us!
