Lk 9:23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
Lk 9:24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.l
Lk 9:25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?
Verse 23 not only speaks of taking up our cross as a lifestyle, it speaks of taking it up daily. Those that choose the life of a Christ-follower have chosen a deliberately lived life, one that can be difficult as we must throw aside our own wants and desires, choosing to live for His wants and desires. Those who choose instead to follow the ways of the world, fulfilling their own wants and desires, will find that they have lost their soul in exchange for gaining the ways of the world. When we give up worldly ways in exchange for the ways of Christ, we gain life. As Paul says in Philippians 1:21: “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” No matter if we live for Him or die for Him, we find our joy and our salvation in Him and through Him.
