“I have rightfully no other business each day but to do God’s work as a servant, constantly regarding His pleasure. May I have grace to live above every human motive, simply with God and to God.” (Henry Martyn, missionary to India)
“It is not the business of the servant to decide which work is great, which is small, which important or unimportant—he is not greater than his master. If by doing some work which the undiscerning consider ‘not spiritual work’ I can best help others, and I inwardly rebel, thinking it is the spiritual for which I crave, when in truth it is the interesting and exciting, then I know nothing of Calvary love.” (missionary Amy Carmichael)
Regarding when Jesus called Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John: “Jesus was about to hit the ground running with teaching, preaching, and healing. To find followers who were proving themselves to be hard and responsible workers would be desirable. Remaining loyal, faithful, and diligent to our work should place us in a desirable position for God’s further leadership. When we wish to be used in other places or ways, we must ‘bloom where we are planted.’ The world is watching , and so is Jesus. (Dianne Swaim, April 2012 ‘Missions Mosaic’)
